How does this work?
Firstly, we do not charge cottage owners or
rental agencies for including their properties
in our database. This gives us an unrivalled
portfolio of cottages so we can be totally
unbiased in selecting the right cottage for
you.
You complete the Cottage
Finder Form and let
us know what is essential for your cottage
vacation, what is desirable, and what would
be ‘just real nice to have’.
For example:
I must have a cottage with 3
bedrooms that sleeps 7, a sandy beach, at no
more than $1500 per week. I would prefer it
to be in the Muskoka region, have a bathtub,
and face south. It would be really nice if
it had a hot tub,
or a Jacuzzi.
Once we have received your completed form,
we‘ll
search our database
for cottages that match
your criteria, and then we will check their
availability directly with the owner or cottage
rental agency. We will select the 3 available
properties that are closest to what you are
looking for, then ask that they are placed
on hold for you for 24 hours.
We’ll then send you a brief summary
of each of the three cottages together with
a photograph where available, and ask you to
call us with your credit card number, or you
can use PayPal to pay by credit card online.
When we have received your payment, we’ll
release the details of the cottages and
the
date and time the holding period expires. You
then contact the owner
or rental agency directly
quoting our booking reference number.
How much does this cost?
We charge a search fee of $65 for this service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1) What
happens if I don’t like any
of the cottages you have selected?
A1) We select cottages based closely on the
criteria you have given us.
If we have found
more cottages based on those criteria, we can
release those details for an additional cost
of $10 per property.
Q2) How do you search for a cottage?
A2) We search for all the criteria you have
given us first. If there are no matches, we
search for essentials and desirables. If again
there are no matches, the search will be for
essentials alone.
Q3) How do I decide what is essential and
what is desirable?
A3) The more criteria you tick as essential,
the fewer cottages will match your search.
Our advice is to only choose as Essential those
items that you absolutely cannot do without.
Desirable are those that you would really prefer,
but can do without, and Bonus criteria are
those that you probably hadn’t even thought
about until you saw the form!
Q4) What happens if I pay for the information,
ring to book and the cottage is no longer available?
A4) This should not happen if you call the
owner or agency before the holding period expires,
but it does occur very occasionally. Let us
know immediately, and we will run the search
again and provide you with additional details
on another cottage.
Q5) Can you book the cottage for me?
A5) No we are simply a cottage search service,
and are not able to act as a booking agent.
Q6) The agency that
has my cottage charges a booking fee. I have
just paid you – why
do I have to pay again?
A6) You have paid Cottage Finder to do the
search for you. Agencies may charge a booking
fee which covers their administration. The
price we have quoted is the published rate
for the cottage, and may or may not include
this fee.
